The Stokes County Fair Board would like to thank everyone that came and supported the 2018 Stokes County Agricultural Fair. Hurricane Florence cut our fair short by two days, but we made the most of it.
A special thank you to Carl Mitchell, Taylor Furr, Patti Snyder, Bryan Hartmann, Susan Roudabush, Dayla Kohler, Denae Kohler, Donna Beck and her assistants, the South Stokes FFA and 4-H, and other helpers for managing the Livestock Shows, Poultry Department, Sparks Sports Complex Challenge, and Horsin’ Around. Thank you also to Trouble Creek Farms for providing animals in the barn and other activities.
On stage, Ralph McGee & Friends and Mountain Roads graced us with their talent. McNally’s Pig Racing and B & K Carnival provided entertainment throughout the fair. Wendi Hendrix-Reirson made her debut with the Cake Auction. We would also like to thank all of our sponsors and BEST OF SHOW sponsors and all our judges, as well as the Stokes County Sheriff’s Department, King Police, and the King Fire Department.
Without ALL the volunteers this fair would not happen! Thank you to everyone for all your hard work at the fair and throughout the entire year. If you are willing to volunteer at the fair, please contact us; all talents are needed!
Departments A-H had 267 individual exhibitors exhibiting 1,342 entries, which resulted in 218 different winners! The Horticulture Department had 116 exhibitors with 697 entries. Livestock had 99 exhibitors and 184 animals. The Poultry Department had 6 exhibitors and 64 animals exhibited. If you have something you would like to exhibit in next year’s fair, please contact Carl Mitchell (email@example.com) for more information.
All of the winners will be listed on our website very soon, sorted by Departments, at www.StokesCountyFair.org . We invite you to visit the site to view all our winners. Don’t forget to see/LIKE us on Facebook.
We are excited that the selections for Best of Show winners for Adult and Youth groups are going to the NC State Fair in October. They compete with other Best of Show winners from counties around the state. Our winner this year in Adult was Tammy Hatley (cross stitch picture) and for Youth was Elizabeth Grabb (sequins jewelry box). We wish them luck at the State Fair!
We are members of North Carolina Agricultural Fair Association; our purpose is to educate the community with competitions in Crafts, Canning, Baking, Sewing, Horticulture, Bees and Honey, Community Booths, Livestock and Poultry, and much more. We would encourage school groups to participate in our Fine Arts and Horticulture contests next year, which include apples, “taters,” gourds, and other categories.
We had 37 adult cakes and 22 youth cakes auctioned and all the proceeds go to the exhibitors.
BINGO is always a crowd-pleaser.
Mark your calendars next year for September 9th, 2019 to bring your entries. The fair midway, exhibits, and barn will open September 10th-14th, 2019! LIKE/Follow us on Facebook so you can stay up to date!
